Those people who are on the specialist registers of the GMC or GDC as doctors or dentists in public health, and wish to appear on a register specifically for public health as a public health specialist. Registration with the UK Voluntary Register will not replace existing professional regulation, (either statutory or voluntary) for specialists who wish to continue to work in their professional area, but is for those who feel that recognition on this public health register will be of benefit with regard to future career flexibility. It is recognised that some medically trained doctors and dentists may wish to be seen as part of the multidisciplinary public health sector. Memorandums of Understanding were signed with the GMC and GDC in July 2004 and dual registration has been met with interest by both doctors and dentists.
