Assessment
Applications by portfolio assessment will be considered by specially trained assessors.
The assessors work in teams consisting of a mix of specialists from a background other than medicine, specialists from a medical background, and independent assessors.
The assessors from medical backgrounds will be current members of the Faculty of Public Health, and may be current Part II examiners or RITA assessors.
The assessors from backgrounds other than medicine will have been involved with the public health development agenda and come from a wide range of professional backgrounds.
Independent assessors: The Nolan definition of independence used by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments is: "Independence cannot be precisely defined but should normally mean that such a person has no operational role within the bodies or the government departments concerned. It is important to avoid any perception of a possible conflict of interest. Therefore a person cannot be an independent assessor if they have been employed by the department or public body concerned within the last 12 months.”
